Losing Weight with the South Beach Diet

Plenty of people have heard of the South beach Diet and wonder if they can really lose weight when they go onto that program. Well, like most diets, some people are going to do really well and lose plenty of weight and keep it off in the long run, some people will do okay and lose some weight and keep it off for a while and others will do not so well and only lose some weight and maybe put some back after they quit the diet.

There is no rule book that says every person will lose so much weight on such and such a diet. It can't exist because there are no two people alike when it comes to losing weight and the myriad ways of doing it.

But at least with a structured program like South Beach, most people will have an equal chance of losing the amount of weight that they have set themselves as a target. Better still, as long as the program is followed closely, then those people can also expect to keep the weight off that they lost in the long term.

A lot of it comes down to how disciplined a person is in themselves. Now some people will freely admit that they lack discipline and are prone to give in to temptations when they are placed in their path. If you can't commit to a program and stick to it, then you can't realistically expect the program to lose the weight for you. You have to do that part yourself by sticking with the program.

Sure, you can still lose weight even if you do cheat every now and again, but what is the point?

Why Restrict Yourself?

What is the point of going through the restrictions on what you can eat and put up with a fairly strict diet, especially in Phase 1 which lasts the first two weeks of the diet, only to go ahead and blow all that hard work by helping yourself to a big slice of pie or a cream cake just because you saw it in a store window in passing? Now that may sound a little amusing to anyone who has been in that situation, but if you go ahead and do it, you won't be laughing too hard when you get on the scales at the end of the week and see you didn't lose any weight!

Diets are all different in many ways except one. That one thing is that they all need to be stuck to pretty closely for them to work. If you stick with the South beach Diet all the way and are determined to lose weight and then to keep it off, then you can succeed and lose as much weight as your determination and commitment will allow you to. No more and no less!
